Collin McGhie
President
Collin is a husband and father, a U.S Army veteran and is
currently employed with a telecommunication company for the past twenty years. He is a devout Christian whose calling is discipleship and missions. The short story is that he founded The Yashar Project and is its current president. The long story is this. After going on a mission trip to Kenya and Uganda in 2010, he concluded that going back to life as usual was not what he was meant to do. He met many people who were being helped, but saw that there were countless others who were living in horrible conditions who still needed help. He remembers walking through a slum in Nairobi for the first time. The stench was so bad he had to make a conscious choice to either continue breathing through my nose and endure the stench or breathe through my mouth and avoid it. The conditions he saw broke his heart for the people and he wanted to make a difference .
With the help of a few committed people they formed The Yashar Project. In 2012, they began by providing food assistance to a school in the slums of Kawangware in Nairobi. Since then, they have expanded to a second school on Mfangano Island in Lake Victoria. On Mfangano, they were without any food assistance for the children until The Yashar Project became involved. Both institutions are still in desperate need to fully fund their feeding programs.
In 2016, they began training pastors in Relational Discipleship in Nairobi with the expectation of expanding to other regions inKenya. That is a herculean task and your help would be appreciated.
