Training
The church’s role in society has been declining since the mid-1950s. Some
point to changing cultural norms; others see the church as disconnected
from modern life or inconsistent in its teaching. Research has also
suggested that people outside the church may be open to talking about
Christ, but are hesitant when Christians seem unsure about explaining their
faith.
“And on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not
overcome it.” — Matthew 16:18
Christians can lose sight of the church’s calling. The church was not meant
to be a group of spectators attending weekly lectures. It is a community
equipped to carry a powerful message: believers share their faith and
continue the work by discipling those who believe.
Rather than relying only on programs to grow membership, The Yashar Project
and like-minded organizations are helping pastors train their congregations
in biblical discipleship. The photo below shows one of our training sessions
in Nairobi, Kenya.
