Elim Primary School

Elim Primary School is located in the heart of the Kawangware slum in Nairobi
and serves more than 300 students. Its beginnings are humble and inspiring:
two men recognized the needs of their community and wanted to make a
difference. With few resources, they opened the school in a single building
with corrugated-metal walls, a metal roof, and a dirt floor.

Recent environmental changes have made many substandard school buildings
in Kawangware uninhabitable. As a result, Elim Primary School has welcomed
many new students who have no other educational options. Meeting the needs
of these additional children has added to the challenges the school already
faces. Please stand with us as we work to be a beacon of hope and opportunity
for the children it serves.

Today, Elim Primary School is a door to opportunity for hundreds of children
who might otherwise be roaming the streets. While at school, they have a safe
place to learn and grow. Their minds are opening to possibilities for a
future beyond what their surroundings might suggest.

The school’s commitment is strong, but significant challenges remain.
Students need properly trained teachers, books, desks, nutritious food, and
a secure, comfortable building in which to learn.

The desire to learn and achieve greatness is in these children’s hearts, but
