Education Assistance

The Yashar Project is committed to making a lasting difference in the lives
of children. Through partnerships with local schools and churches in Kenya,
we connect with families who cannot afford school fees and children who have
been orphaned. We help children move from life on the streets into schools
where they can learn and work toward a brighter future.

Schools in these communities face significant challenges. Imagine teaching
without a current syllabus, or trying to learn without a textbook. Picture
four students sharing a desk designed for two—or having no desk at all.
These are daily realities for many students and teachers.

We also sponsor students completing Class 8 (eighth grade) as they move on
to high school. At the end of Class 8, students take the Kenya Certificate
of Primary Education (KCPE), which high schools use to guide admissions.
Students who are accepted receive information about school fees and the
supplies they will need.

Many families in the slums cannot afford the $600–$800 per year needed for
secondary education. Without support, children can become trapped in a
cycle of poverty. High-school sponsorship was not part of The Yashar
Project’s original plan, but once we saw this need, we could not ignore it.
